The .au Domain Administration (auDA) says the success of .au domains demonstrates the robust nature of Australia’s digital economy.
As we mentioned last Friday, the number of currently registered .AU domains has reached the 3 million milestone; although it has dipped to slightly under at the time of writing to 2,999,802.
The auspicious occasion gained the attention of Minister for Communications, Malcolm Turnbull.
"Australia, once remote, is one of the greatest beneficiaries of the Internet's annihilation of geography. Congratulations to auDA on this momentous milestone," he said.
Chris Disspain, CEO of auDA, says the online street cred .AU has enjoyed has been built on trust.
"Australian businesses and consumers have confidence in .au domain names because they’re the best way to identify yourself as a trusted Australian source online," he said.
"It’s a safe, trusted and reputable corner of the web and Australians know it. That’s why more and more people and companies are gravitating towards .au names that allow us to shop, live, work and play online with confidence."
The auDA is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space.
"The significant investment we have made in the infrastructure and stability of the .au Registry has produced a robust and secure platform that is recognised for its best-of-breed architecture," said Adrian Kinderis, CEO of AusRegistry. "This is one of the reasons .au has achieved 100 percent uptime throughout our tenure."
The history of the .AU namespace goes back around 3 decades - you can learn more about the registry's past here.
