CENTR Accepts .AU As A Member

October 16, 2012

The CENTR General Assembly held in Brussels last week voted in favour of the application for Associate Membership from the Australian ccTLD (.au).

"CENTR welcomes the arrival of auDA to the community and looks forward to their interaction and contributions," says a brief statement on the Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries web site

The auDA (au Domain Administration) oversees the operations of the .au name space and is responsible for accrediting .au registrars

CENTR's main role is the provision of a forum for the exchange of information between members and discussion of policies affecting ccTLD (country code Top Leve Domain) registries. CENTR also facilitates projects on technical management and legal issues affecting ccTLDs.

CENTR was formed in March 1998 and was initially informally funded by participant registries. Since 2006, CENTR has been registered as a non-profit organisation based in Brussels, Belgium.

CENTR now has 51 full members and 10 associate members; all of which manage one or more Top Level Domains (TLD's).

In other auDA related news, the body has announced details of its 2012 Annual General Meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to report the activities of auDA and elect Directors to the Board of auDA to replace those retiring by rotation. The AGM will elect four Directors to the Board, to replace four Directors who must retire in accordance with the auDA's Constitution.

AGM details:
Date: Monday 12 November 2012
Time: 4.00pm
Venue: Maddocks, 123 Angel Place, Sydney
Further details of the meeting can be viewed here.

Last week, the auDA also announced the recipients of the 2012 ANZIA Awards recognizing excellence in businesses, organisations and individuals contributing to the development and use of the Internet in Australia and New Zealand. The ANZIAs are a collaboration between the auDA and InternetNZ.
