Four million domain names were added to the Internet in the third quarter of last year, according to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief from Verisign.
By September 30, 2014 the total number of registered domain names across all TLDs had risen 284 million; a growth rate of 1.6 percent over the second quarter of 2014 and an increase of 18.1 million names, or 6.8 percent, year over year.
The top 10 gTLDs were .com, .tk, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .co, .mobi, .me and .tv respectively, which account for 63.1 percent of the total global domain name registrations.
With regard to ccTLD's (country code Top Level Domains), Australia again made the top ten in Q3 2014.

According to current data from auDA; .au domain registrations currently stand at 2,930,213.
ccTLD registrations reached approximately 132.1 million in the third quarter of 2014, an increase of approximately 12.8 million domain names, or 10.7 percent, on the previous year. Of the 285 global ccTLD extensions the top 10 account for 67.1 percent of all ccTLD registrations.
Verisign's said during the third quarter it experienced an average daily Domain Name System (DNS) query load of 114 billion across all the TLDs it operates. Query load peaked at 318 billion, which Verisign says was the highest average and peak query loads in a single quarter to date.
