AusRegistry and the .au Domain Administration (auDA) have launched an online survey to gauge Australian views concerning the .au domain namespace.
The auDA is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space and AusRegistry is the Registry Operator, managing .au names including: .com.au, .net.au, .id.au, .asn.au and .org.au. The role of the Registry Operator is to ensure the stability and integrity of the namespace as well as ensuring that .au is continually developed.
The first such survey of .au opinions, the two bodies are hoping for 10,000 participants over a three month period to "provide a baseline performance standard to measure against annually in future surveys."
Domain name purchasing habits of Australian consumers is a focus of the survey as is reactions to the looming introduction of new generic Top-Level Domains later this year - and what impact this might have on both consumers and the .au namespace.
The survey will also investigate anecdotal evidence suggesting Australians have a strong loyalty towards .au domain names and trust it over other extensions.
The survey will be well promoted; with a potential exposure to 21 million unique browsers per month according to the auDA.
".. it is hoped the results will provide reliable insights which can be used to dictate future marketing and education campaigns, and importantly help set new policy direction," says part of a statement on the auDA web site.
The survey will run until the end of May 2013 and results are expected to be released later this year. The survey can be viewed here: www.ausregistry.com.au/survey2013
At the time of writing, there were 2,621,331 Australian domain names registered (auDA figures); more than one name every 9 people in Australia.
